Stair Flooring Installation in Centennial & Denver Metro

Stairs are one of the most common parts of our flooring jobs. When a main level gets new floors, the staircase usually needs to match, and stairs take more skill than open floor: every tread and riser is cut, fitted and finished by hand. Floor & More installs luxury vinyl plank, carpet and hardwood on stairs across the Denver Metro, and we refinish existing hardwood stairs too.

Stair Flooring Options

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Stairs

LVP is the most popular choice when the main level is getting vinyl plank. Each tread is wrapped or capped with a matching flush stair nose, and risers can be LVP or painted white for contrast. It is waterproof, scratch-resistant and easy to clean. See vinyl floor installation.

Carpet Stairs

Carpet is quieter and softer underfoot, and it is a common pick for basement stairs and homes with kids or older dogs. We install new tack strip, pad and carpet, including landings and open-sided staircases where carpet is wrapped between the spindles. See carpet installation.

Hardwood Stairs and Refinishing

Solid or engineered hardwood treads give a classic look, and existing oak stairs can often be sanded and stained instead of replaced. See hardwood floor refinishing.

Stair Runners

A carpet runner over hardwood or LVP treads combines the look of wood with the grip and quiet of carpet.

What a Stair Project Includes

  • Removing old carpet, tack strip or treads and preparing each step
  • Fitting new treads, risers and stair nose by hand
  • Landings, open sides, returns and winders
  • New or painted risers and skirt boards
  • Matching transitions where the stairs meet the floor above and below
  • Railing and baluster updates when the scope calls for it

Pricing: Closed vs. Open Staircases

Stairs are priced per step rather than per square foot, and width matters. On our invoices you will see steps described by width and style, such as a 36″ closed staircase or a 60″ staircase with one side open. Open sides, landings and wrapped spindles take more labor than a closed staircase. We measure and give you a written quote before any work starts.

Stair Flooring FAQ

Can LVP go on stairs?

Yes. Each step gets an LVP tread and a matching flush stair nose, glued and fastened so it stays solid. Risers can be LVP or painted.

Should my stairs match my floors?

Usually. Matching the main-level floor makes the house feel connected. Carpet on basement stairs and LVP or wood upstairs is also common.

How long does a staircase take?

A standard closed staircase is often done in a day. Open-sided stairs, landings and refinishing take longer.

Can you just do the stairs?

Yes. We do stand-alone stair jobs as well as stairs as part of a whole-floor project.
