Resilient and Luxury Vinyl Flooring in Denver: Cost, Lifespan and Waterproofing

Resilient flooring, especially luxury vinyl plank (LVP), has become one of the most popular floors in Denver Metro homes. It looks like wood or stone, handles water and grit, and stays stable through Colorado’s dry winters. This guide covers what it is, what it costs, how long it lasts and whether it is waterproof.

What Is Resilient Flooring?

Resilient flooring is a category that includes luxury vinyl plank, luxury vinyl tile and sheet vinyl. The name comes from its ability to bounce back: it resists dents, compresses slightly under pressure and returns to shape, which also makes it more comfortable underfoot than tile.

Most products have a rigid or flexible core, a printed design layer and a clear wear layer on top. That layered construction makes them tough and easy to clean.

Why It Works Well in Denver

Denver’s dry air and temperature swings can be hard on solid wood. Resilient flooring does not expand and contract the same way, so it stays stable year-round in homes from Aurora to Parker to Highlands Ranch. It also handles grit and dust from Colorado’s dry seasons without scratching easily. Kitchens, mudrooms, basements and bathrooms are all good fits, and many customers install it through the whole home.

Is Resilient Flooring Waterproof?

Some of it is, but not all of it.

  • Rigid-core luxury vinyl plank is typically fully waterproof. The core will not swell or warp even if water sits on it.
  • Some budget products are only water-resistant. They handle splashes but not standing water for long.

For basements, which in Centennial, Englewood and elsewhere deal with humidity and occasional ground moisture, a fully waterproof product is usually the safer choice. We match the product to the room so you do not pay for waterproofing you do not need, or put a water-resistant floor in a laundry room.

What It Costs in Denver

Installed resilient flooring in Denver typically ranges from about $3 to $8 per square foot. Thicker wear layers, rigid-core construction, attached pads and realistic embossing move the price up. Because most products use click-lock or glue-down installation, labor usually costs less than tile, and a mid-size room can often be finished in a day.

Uneven subfloors, common in some older Centennial and Littleton homes, may need leveling first. We check during the in-home visit and include any prep in the written estimate.

How Long It Lasts

Quality luxury vinyl plank typically lasts 15 to 25 years with normal use. The biggest factor is the wear layer: a 12 or 20 mil wear layer resists scratches and fading far longer than a thin 6 mil layer found on cheaper products. Sun exposure and traffic also matter.

Signs it is time to replace

Peeling seams, wear through to the printed layer, or a spongy feel underfoot. We can inspect an aging floor and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes sense.

Care tips

  • Use furniture pads.
  • Sweep up grit regularly.
  • Avoid harsh ammonia-based cleaners.

Our Installation Process

We start with an in-home measurement and bring samples so you can see them in your own light. Then we schedule removal of the old floor, subfloor prep and installation around your timeline, with no surprise add-ons once work begins. Our crews lay protection in walkways, and most single rooms are finished the same day. Older homes, such as many in Englewood, often need extra subfloor prep that newer builds do not, and we plan for it up front.

Resilient Flooring FAQ

Is LVP the same as laminate?

No. LVP is vinyl-based and rigid-core versions are waterproof; laminate has a wood-fiber core and is usually water-resistant. See our laminate flooring guide.

Can LVP go over concrete?

Yes, once the slab is checked for moisture and flatness.

Does LVP work with pets?

Yes. Choose a thick wear layer and a matte finish to hide scratches.
